As Muskegon transitions into the global economy, it is important we support area businesses that provide local employment, tax revenue and the goods and services we need.  The difference between supporting businesses in our community versus shopping out of town is the amount of money reinvested into the area. Where we spend money does matter!

Spend a dollar at a local business, and it will circulate in our community more often and more quickly than if we spend that dollar outside the community - up to six times more! A report by Civic Economics, a leader in analyzing the economics of regional retail and service activities, states that $73 out of every $100 spent locally is retained and pumped back into the West Michigan economy. Nearly 58% more money is kept local when consumers choose to spend their money at area businesses. It results in business growth, essential services, and additional employee wages. This means:

• More people get a paycheck
• Pay their bills
• Purchase good and services from their friends and neighbors
