HighPoint Flats apartment construction very close, developer says

MUSKEGON, MI – The developer of the downtown HighPoint Flats project said he’s very hopeful it will finally get off the ground, and that construction could begin in as early as a month.

The fourth amendment to a development agreement with Jon Rooks’ Parkland Muskegon LLC will go to the Muskegon City Commission on Tuesday. Rooks plans 47 market-rate apartments and commercial space in the eight-story fading white high-rise at Western Avenue and First Street.

“It’s the closest we’ve been since I’ve been here,” said Muskegon City Manager Frank Peterson. The agreement was originally signed nearly 10 years ago.

Construction on renovations at the 100-year-old bank building could begin as early as late April, Rooks said.
