The Deck in Muskegon among ‘Best beach bars in America,’ Thrillist says
MUSKEGON, MI – Michigan is home to one of the best beach bars in America.
That’s the word from Thrillist, a digital publication focused on food, drink and travel, which included The Deck, 1601 Beach St., in Muskegon on its list published on Friday, Aug. 11.
The list is mostly comprised of bars located in places with more tropical climates such as Hawaii, California and Florida, but littered among the warm-weather hot spots is the seasonal, beachside bar on Lake Michigan.

“Muskegon’s The Deck, sits right on the beautiful Pere Marquette Park beach, where the smoke that instills its house-made BBQ with flavor wafts over to the waters of Lake Michigan, beer is paired with live music, and the sunsets serve as their own show,” Thrillist reporter Andy Kryza writes.
“Also, there’s a landlocked pontoon. This is a lower-Michigan beach bar, after all, and a rare one at that. Just be sure to wait 30 minutes to swim after your meat and three.“
The Deck has all kinds of smoked items which are made in house from scratch including smoked chicken, pulled pork, sausage, beef brisket, nachos, salads and burritos. The deck also offers a healthier choice for beach-goers with gluten-free and allergy-free items. It is closed during the winter months.
The Deck is the only Michigan restaurant included on the list, although nearby Dockers Fish House is certainly worth checking out as well.
Rhode Island, North Carolina, Alabama, Wisconsin, Oregon, New Jersey, Missouri, Alaska, Texas, Massachusetts and Georgia are also represented on the list.
