About MasterTag

MasterTag is a 3rd generation business founded in 1949 by Lou Schmidt, who invented the plastic horticulture tag as we now know it. Born out of a plastic fishing bobber business called MasterFloat, Lou satisfied a local grower’s need, Weesies Brothers Garden Center, for a durable plant tag. Since then, the tag quickly became the primary source of information for gardeners when shopping for plants.

MasterTag shares a common experience with its customers and has remained 100% devoted to horticulture throughout its 75-year history. Our processes and culture are committed to producing high-quality, accurate products that are proven to work. We provide growers and retailers with the tags and labels that sell plants.

In 2021, MasterTag became a wholly owned subsidiary of Avery Products Corporation. Avery Products Corporation is the world’s largest supplier of labels, specialty converted media and software solutions for short-run digital printing applications for businesses and consumers available alongside complementary products sold through distributors, mass market stores and e-commerce retailers under the Avery® brand. Avery Products, a division of CCL Industries, is based in Brea, California. Avery and all other Avery brands, product names and codes are trademarks of CCL Industries, Inc. All other company and product names may be trademarks or service marks of their respective owners. For more information about Avery products, visit avery.com.

Avery is supporting MasterTag with additional capabilities and product offerings as well as further developing business growth.
